On July 20, 1968, Grupo FRISA acquired ownership of approximately 109.87 hectares of forest located in the Magdalena Contreras borough of Mexico City. This land serves as a natural barrier against urban sprawl and is the gateway to approximately 2,800 hectares of forested area known as “Los Dinamos.”
Roughly 2.5 kilometers of the Magdalena River, the last living river in Mexico City, flow through this area. The Magdalena River spans a total of 21.6 kilometers and provides approximately 20 million cubic meters of water annually to the southwestern part of the city.
In terms of biodiversity, the area is home to at least 90 distinct plan species, 19 endemic species, 2 species under protection category -NOM-059-SEMARNAT-201, 67 bird species, 37 mammal species within their distribution range and 2 endemic reptile species in Mexico.
In 2019, Grupo FRISA began executing the project known as "Parque Natural La Cañada" (PNLC) with the purpose of transforming the area into a natural space for environmental education, community engagement, and social interaction in the heart of Magdalena Contreras. The project includes commercial areas, public spaces, gathering spots, and ecotourism activities aimed at preserving the biodiversity of the forest and river ecosystem.
In 2024, Parque Natural La Cañada A.C. was authorized by the Mexican Tax Administration Service (SAT) to receive tax-deductible donations.

Given the characteristics of the park and its focus on public use, environmental education, and biodiversity conservation, a set of relevant indicators and/or indices has been proposed. These can be divided into two categories: those related to biodiversity and those related to soil.
These indicators will enable us to measure our progress, make informed decisions, and collaborate with the community to protect and preserve this valuable natural space.
Together, the biodiversity and soil indicators contribute to the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
